It's *amazing* how unrelated the definition of species I learned in high school biology is from the use in practice. The closest we got, I think, were ring species.

All the citrus varieties you know of are basically complicated mixtures of at least 5 different "species" in the genus Citrus.

@varx The problem of finding a definition of species goes right back to . He acknowledged that what some may call varieties, others might classify as species. This is an intrinsic problem of classification and taxonomy.
