It's *amazing* how unrelated the definition of species I learned in high school biology is from the use in practice. The closest we got, I think, were ring species.
@varx The problem of finding a definition of species goes right back to #Darwin. He acknowledged that what some may call varieties, others might classify as species. This is an intrinsic problem of classification and taxonomy.

All the citrus varieties you know of are basically complicated mixtures of at least 5 different "species" in the genus Citrus.
