@pro I don't think it's unusual for containers to run with block storage; e.g. https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux_atomic_host/7/html/managing_containers/managing_storage_with_docker_formatted_containers is the LVM setup. But sure that's the host kernel mounting it; but then the question is do you really want each container to go through LVM and the host kernel? Some like not letting containers know anything about the host kernel's fs layer on the basis that opens too much of an attack surface.
