How does it work? When you create an account on Mastodon, you create an account on the website you currently are visiting. For example, here you are on mastodon.org.uk. That is your instance.
You will notice after log in two different timelines, the Local and the Federated.
The local timeline is all the public toots of all our local users ( the one who registered on mastodon.org.uk and use it to access the Mastodon federation ).
The federated timeline adds the public toots of all the users that our local users are following in other servers/
Bots on this instance
@STATUS Gives us an automated heads up when there is a new Mastodon Version available.
@gastrodon Tweets a few markov-generated recipes each day from curated texts of public-domain, old cookbooks .
@userscount Gives us detailed info about users and toots. Source on Github
@bigben Toots the time. Source on Github. Maintained by @followthesam
Bots are welcome here but please not that bots will be silenced when posting too much (e.g. flooding local timeline). If you have a bot, please contact me (@xvilo). I can add it to the list.
Bots will be banned if they post inappropriate content or if I (@xvilo) get many complaints about it.
We have also a Facebook page. Like us there at fb.com/mastodon.org.uk
