I believe this is a Lapinsirkku, also known as Calcarius lapponicus, on the lookout. It's very similar to the Pohjansirkku, or Schoeniclus rusticus, so it might be that as well. However, this one was captured in the fjells, which is not the typical habitat for the Pohjansirkku.

'You look up and see light coming through': The divers venturing under the ice in the name of science.

There is a 70cm-thick layer of ice capping the surface of this lake, in a remote corner of Lapland, northern Finland.

It is a world cut off from our own by thick blankets of floating ice, but some scientists are taking the plunge to learn how these frozen depths are changing.

Baby willow grouse crying for mama. Quite difficult to get a picture of one as they are well hidden in the foliage and only leave their hiding place if you almost step on them. And even then, they are super fast to run into the next cover and vanish.

Abisko National Park, located in the far north of Sweden above the Arctic Circle, serves as the starting point of the famous Kungsleden hiking trail in the warmer months. In winter, it transforms into a prime destination for aurora hunting due to the long nights. But even during the daylight-starved season, shorter hikes through the snow-covered landscape can be just as magical — especially during the prolonged twilight hours.

Train 265 from Helsinki to Kemijärvi at foggy Riihimäki station. One of the semi-officially called "Santa Claus Express" trains between the south of Finland and Lapland. Pretty much sold out due to the winter holiday season.

VR Class Sr3 (Siemens Vectron Nordic) pulling a consist of 14 carriages:

9 sleepers

a restaurant car

a coach car

a coach/baggage car

2 car-carriers

402 metres, using the full length of the most station platforms.

My job was to bring it from the depot in Helsinki to the Central Station and them drive it north to Tampere for a crew change.

Wilderness hut in storm at Varangerhalvøya National Park, Norway. Lucky for us we had reached the hut previous day. Winds weren’t super bad but visibility was zero and the terrain difficult to navigate safely. The hut is operated by the Norwegian Red Cross.
